I am in the process right now of recertifying my teaching credentials so that I can formally teach CPR ,ECC , Wilderness First Aid , and Wilderness First Responder classes again. ( used to be an EMT EMS instructor with Colorado Mountain College in a former life ) I should have everything finalized ( skills tests , teacher certs, and reciprosities ) by the first or second week of May . After that I could put together a basic course if people are interested .

Thanks for the invite 4runninfun. Yes . I've taught alot of the field/ survival med classes ( THANKS B, haha). I would not worry about certing the people who want to take the class it is a waste of there money for them if they don't use training in everyday life........ sprains,strains,breaks- immobilations above/below break w/ distail pulses , shock prevention, hyperthermia prevention, dehydration, wound cleaning and repair .Teaching the more you know the less you need -so your not carrying a 60lb bag **** that takes up too much rm and you don't know what is in there whether day or night w/ diffucult weather .
IF my memory serves me right there was about 4-5 of us trying to do this before but not alot of interest .

well thankfully there seams to be quite a bit of interest this time around. I think we should start looking at dates to make this happen.

What Pete says above about "real world " situations and using "whats on hand , improvising " to take care of a situation is spot on and is one of the basic principles in wilderness EMS . Like Souyhpaws says above , if you don't care about a "certification" card , then a "class" wouldn't cost anything and could be tailored specifically to just what skills folks wanted to learn . Could put together a "real world" 4x4ing scenerio for you right here in our backyard .

I don't care about the card either. Have been previously CPR and Firstaid Certified, and the card just added more stuffing into my wallet.

I've been CPR certified 3 times. It's expired now, but that wouldn't stop me from doing what I could in any given situation. I'd like a refresher course to be sure. I'd also like to learn about first aid tactics that we could likely use since we all love the outdoors and mountains and wheeling! What to do as well as what NOT to do!!!

Don't care about a card/certification either - would just love to learn what to do to help should something awful happen.

Good talk guys ! Wow! Ok I have a call in to Highland rescue in the foothills area to set up our class and an instructor but I saw a post of one person that has a friend that can do the class so maybe we tie him to the front seat and hit a trail and do our class and take the test on the mountain somewheres.!!! American red cross does the cert. if you want to be certified. I don't have the cost yet. But will have it Monday. I can help set up the run but I think that a fairly easy to moderate trail would be good. But you guys know better than I at this point ....
Thanks for the great support and response .. Better out than in I always say!

Hey guys don't know how fast something like this would get set up but if it waits till mid may or later I would most likely join you. I got way to much school until then.

Didn't mean to step on any toes > I didn't realize you already had a contact for teaching a class. Looks like you have a lot of good interest Ironhide. Good job The more people with pre-hospital medical training the better for all of us.

BTW on the subject of "real world situations " I am teaching a climbing specific first aid class in a couple weeks . There are a couple spots still open . Great for anyone getting into climbing so far as knowing what to do if your leader takes a bad fall , someone dislocates a shoulder etc. How to escape the belay, get up to an injured partner, lowering .... all that good stuff. It will be in the same general area as China Wall , PCR 77 south of Jefferson.

Sweet! I can show how to reset a dislocated shoulder when you are on a hanging belay, how to climb with a splinted arm, how to climb after being tagged by lightening, how to climbwith broken ribs, and can easily simulate a person with a sever head injury simply by being myself.....

Kidding aside. this is a good thing to teach. My friend Craig Luebben, who got mushed a couple of years ago by about 30 tons or so of ice, wrote a pretty detailed climbing self rescue book published by the same publisher that my last guides were done by, Falcon Press.

He helped me a lot with the initial guide to the Cache La Poudre climbing (Front Range Crags, Hubbel) and then later on, he and I were going to be doing a revised guide to the same area I originally covered for Falcon Publishing.. I believe that someone is still making the Big Bros, but I don't know who. I had some at one point and my buddy has some, too. For some reason I seem to do a fair amount of off widths, but not anywhere near as hard a Craig was. Last time I saw him, I was dating a lady that he almost married....Good guy and sorely missed.

Big Bros are being made by Trango and are still available:

    http://www.rockclimbing.com/gear/Ess..._Bros_307.html

I never saw his self rescue guide, not that I wouldn't learn something from it, just never bothered to look at it. He said it was a lot better before the editors at Falcon crapped on it. I can relate as they did this on a couple of my books, too...

This I like. Knowledge we can use in situations we may very well encounter.

Twenty-one posts and not a single, significant hijack??? That's not the Front Range 4x4 way of doing things!

What is the cost of a fire extinguisher class? Watching a video is one thing, feeling the heat while you approach a fire is something else.
