    Default My in between project

Since of last spring my tube bender was down and Mike gave some equipment two years ago to adapt to it and make it better (less manual labor)! Well I finally got around to work on in as the title says in between other projects and it is coming along fairly well even with the glitch my welder took last week, and that actually was a good thing because it got me to give it a tune up and it is working great!
Here are a couple of pics on the bender as of yesterday, with the new used hydrualic power unit mounted up and 1/4" plates welded to the feet so I could weld on some casters to make it moveable, today I am work on the power supply for the motor. I can still run it in a vertical position or horizontally like pictured.

    Nice, Sean!

I have the hydraulic cylinder and pump to convert my from the air to hydraulics, including the lever assembly, but can't afford the hoses to do it. Mine hydraulic junk was from a fork lift that was being scrapped that our yard guy, Shorty, bootied for me. After seeing Scotty's (Addicted Off Road) set up in action, I can't wait until I get mine hooked up. Gotta fix my other rolling junk first...Luckily, my tubing jobs have been relatively small....My air compressor only 'sort of' keeps up with the air pump on the bender right now..

Matt, yes the main frame is from my old Harbor Freight bender, the pedestal is an old engine stand, and the new parts (ram and hydraulic power unit) are from a forklift and the power supply is an old 24vdc battery charger that is being reconfigured for constant power. I do how ever need to find out how the DC solenoid gets wired.

Thanks guys for the comments, and Pete, I look forward to seeing yours in operation soon. A big thanks to Mike for the parts!

How much do you have invested in the setup so far? I really want a bender, but it's hard to justify a $300 fabrication tool when you're a biology student in college.

Actually only cost so far was what I initially paid for the unit 15 years ago and now it is just time to make it updated plus some angle iron and larger pipe to fab some better dies than the rollers that came with it and did not work.
