    Default Making my introduction.

    Hi all,

I've been in CO since '96 or so. Came out here with a lightly lifted '88 XJ on 31's, residing in Ft.Collins for a couple years, before moving to Boulder.

Been here a while now, and largely worked in the bicycle industry. Finally went back to school a few years ago and finished a degree in Accounting at CU. Did a couple Controller jobs, one in the cycling industry, and the last at a softgoods supplier still within the outdoor industry. They finally retreated back to the UK, so have been between gigs to the present. As such, most of my recent mods have been very $ friendly and addressing some of the little basics, which for my older rig, are just as important as anything else. Done all the work aside from the tranny rebuild and main-seal myself.

Bought this '90 K5 a year ago last December. Arizona truck and all OEM. No rust, no frame cracks. Paint is per that generation, but not complaining. Since then, thinking back-to-front: ORD 4" shackle-flip, receiver hitch re-welded to clear the ORD brackets (tow a trailer on occasion), mucho attention to that electric rear window. Fresh fuel pump and associated bits. An, ahem, rather large amount of time spent trying different shim configurations to get the drive-line vibes out. Don't have the $ for a CV right now. All I can say is that the +/- 2 degree rule seems to hold true. Tranny (700r4) rebuild guys gave me the go ahead to drop the t-case in this pursuit, and just got some proper spacers machined to keep the frame happy.

Tuff Country 3" E-Z ride springs up front leveled everything nicely for now. Grease-able poly bushings all around, and longer braided brakelines also from ORD. ORD steering/frame-brace. Oh, and those Autozone 4" lift Gabriels for dampers. $35/each and I just wanted to get the thing up. Seem decent so far.

Rebuilt the TBI unit, multiple cooling hoses. Also added tranny cooler. Had the dash out and gave it general refresh. Cobra 29 on console and fire extinguisher behind driver seat. Shovels, basic recovery, fluids, etc stashed and lashed.

Still on 3.73 10-bolts (with gov-bomb) in back, but have open 4.10 14bff that am cleaning up (still scrounging for matching 4.10 front). Also have 3.73 open rear in my stash just in case. Auto hubs replaced with manual. Second-hand previous generation MTRs in 33x12.5x15 on original rallys (have a soft-spot for these old steelies).

Things gotten rid of: A/C compressor and hoses; factory oil cooler and bits (cooler sprung a leak in most inopportune situation. Story unto itself).

The hit-list: Install said t-case spacers, ORD sway disconnects (just waiting for a couple bushings), paint and mount roof rack (gotta wait until my guy gets back for some welding), aaaand MAKE SOME PROPER BUMPERS. Oh, and re-do the door hinge bushings. My gap at the bottom is downright shameful.

    As purchased.

    After the lift work

Gratuitous glamour shot. Moustache long gone, but not in spirit. And yes, those are those $25 driving lights that...kinda help.

Right on. I'm from the SE corner. Rochester, proper, but spent some good years in MPLS.

Thanks guys. I'm totally "non-denominational", but there's just a time in a man's life when he feels like rolling a K5. Especially as I'm somewhat tall.

I can totally appreciate how much more nimble my old XJ was. Maybe it was the Jeep width, or maybe its that decade or so of tree growth, but this old girl fits a lot tighter than I remember.

My lady has a '02? Grand Cherokee with the inline 6. Totally stock, but takes me back. Is good truck.

Ha. Yeah, raced a bunch of mountain bikes outta there back in the hard-fork (and early sus) era. Sure do miss the music scene. One that comes to mind is seeing the original Jayhawks play First Ave. on Christmas eve. Still brings a tear to the eye.

Have some good homies back there. One owns OneonOne bike studio on Wash. Ave. Gene Oberpriller. Another in particular comes out here to visit quite a bit. He's been building a killer '96 Buick Roadmaster. Total sleeper. He punches it across the plains, then we pass the GM batton and switch to the K5.

Well, I'd give it an 8.5, though I thought I saw the East German judge flash a 3.

Welcome aboard, Dave. I have no Minnesota connections, unless you count hanging out with all the crazy ex-Minnesotans on this forum.

    Thanks!

I've guested on this forum for a bit regarding trail conditions, etc. Moreover, don't really have any close friends into creeping around off-road in a 4x4, so figured it was time to reach out. Don't get me wrong, there are dirt bikes and snowmobiles going every which way. Am also going to assist in what just might be a '91 'Burb purchase in the morning.

Below are some spacers my buddy helped make yesterday. Feel horrible priming and painting them, but that's what needs to be done.

Meh. Those Kraüt-burgers don't scare me. Figure I can say that as my mom is a Wagoner. German all the way. Sheesh, that side of the family is what trucks are all about. Have also spent some brief time in Austria. Talk about steep!

    Welcome from another Boulderite!

Was your blazer parked near REI tonight? I saw a lifted white k5 in the parking lot on my break.
