    Default Lost Friends Memorial Run

Hi Everyone, We are planning a trail run in memory of some of our lost friends .
August 11 & 12 , Saturday & Sunday, at the peak of the Perseid meteor shower

Annie and I have lost some great friends in the last few years. Two who died we used to 4wheel with, another who died we used to snowmobile with, and another friend we used to wheel with had to move away to Michigan.
We're not looking to have a sad event , more of a " remember the great times we shared " event. We figured that there are some of you that might have lost good friends also. Maybe , hopefuly, your friends didn't die , but they may have moved away , lost interest in wheeling , can no longer afford to keep a rig, grew up and don't want to come any more ( kids do that ) . Probably a bunch more reasons too. Even if you havn't lost any friends , a trail run is probably going to turn up some new ones.

At any rate we have two routes we are going to do.

Saturday 9 am -Meet across the road ( Hwy 285 ) from the Jefferson Country store -- From Jefferson- Up Georgia pass , across Glacier Ridge ,down into the Swan, lunch in Breck then up Penn creek , crossing over into the Boreas area coming out in Como.

Sunday 9:30 am - Meet at Gunsmoke truck stop in Johnson Village- Then to St. Elmo- over Tincup pass , stop for a bite to eat in Tincup if that little place is still open , over Cumberland pass, stop by the Alpine Tunnel , then come back over Hancock pass.

All pretty mellow whelling , but really nice scenery. We'd love to have you along . Please join us for the Saturday run , the Sunday run , or for both days.

There are lots of good camping spots near Jefferson (for those coming up on Friday), Near Como (near the end of Saturdays run ), around Fairplay, Buena Vista, and Taylor Resevoir. There are also a couple motels in Fairplay and B. V. I'll post more details on all of these a little later.

Saturday -Probably most of you will be coming South on Hwy 285 Saturday morning ... Maybe someone from down there in the Metro area could organize a time and place to meet and caravan together up to the 9 am meet up in Jefferson ???

Sunday- For those who spend Saturday night in the Fairplay,Como area , We will be meeting Sunday morning at the Sinclair gas station in Fairplay . At 8:15 we'll start out down Hwy 285 for Johnson Village . For those who are coming up from the Metro area on Sunday morning, maybe someone could organize a caravan up to the Fairplay Sinclair for the 8:15 departure . Then we could all caravan down to Gunsmoke together for the 9:30 meet-up with the folks who spent Saturday night down near B.V.

For both Saturdays and Sundays runs ( and caravans ) we'll be using channel 11 on the CB

Camping ; For those of you who are going to be camping Friday and/or Saturday in the Fairplay-Como - Jefferson area , let us know if you are not sure where to go . We know of some good spots . There are also some designated F.S. campsites and a couple private RV sites nearby as well .

We also have plenty of camping space at our place . We are hoping for a couple of clear nights to see the meteor showers.

We went out this past Friday with our neighbor Wayne and did a sort of pre run on the Swan area after comming down #10 hill from Glacier Ridge , Georgia pass. Wayne's grandchildren were visiting and came on this trip . We saw a bunch of mt. goats on top of G pass and then another big group up on top between the middle and north forks of the Swan . Great weather and a great day . We came back up through Penn creek and crossed over to come out on Boreas Pass. LONG DAY ......... Have a question for those thinking about comming on the Saturday portion of this run ....... What length of time works best for you ? What time would most folks like to be done for the day , off the trail ???? We are thinking of some diferent ways of varying Saturday's route. We'll post pictures soon !

DROPPING THE SATURDAY PORTION due to an apparent lack of interest we are dropping the Saturday portion of the Lost Friends Memorial Run and just concentrating on the Sunday portion. SUNDAY AUGUST 12th will be the only portion of the run that we will be doing.

Sunday August 12th will be Tincup Pass , Cumberland Pass , and Hancock Pass .

Meeting at Gunsmoke in Johnson Village at 9:30 am SUNDAY ( leaving Fairplay Sinclair at 8:15 am SUNDAY ) Hope to see you there !

Sorry you could not make it this time . We will plan another Saturday trip for the loop we had planned for the 11th ( Georgia, Middle&North fork, Penn creek) sometime in September. We will post info on that trip soon .
