    Default Junk Yard Run

A few of us were talking today at the Turkey Run about doing a Junk Yard Run next Sunday. One of the places discussed was U Pull And Pay. Of course we can go to more than one place. http://www.upullandpay.com/locations/denver/default.aspx

    Meeting place and time TBD.

Dont go to Western LKQ (formerly western auto). I was there this week and left rather disgruntled. Their prices went through the roof when they got bought out, and they tried to nickle and dime me... like charge me for hardware that went with the leaf springs I pulled. Used to be my favorite yard, not anymore.

Very few yards are open on Sunday. Pull and Pay is one of them as is Western.

Ditto on what Steve said on Western. Last time I was there, I was quoted a phone price and it mysteriously went up when I can to pick up the part. I ended up walking out and leaving the part. Sean (1freaky1) has also experienced the mysterious price hike as has Monster Burb. I don't think Sean has been back. I know I haven't.

Helps to have a list of what you are looking for, too, especially make, model and year. Also helps to have a two wheel dolly for your tools although Pull and Pay has wheelbarrows to use. Also bring a 5 gallon bucket of some sort. I have a bunch at my house in the roll off if you need one. Let me know and I'll grab one for you. Remember to snag loose nuts and bolts for whatever rig you have, too, as well as any fuses and relays under the hood for your trail repair junk. Case in point: the main EFI relay for Yotas cost $40. The yards pretty much give these away....Ditto with worm clamps. On most Volvos, Mercs, and other more expensive imports, these are all pretty expensive stainless steel if you buy them new and are usually found at boating suppliers. They are almost free at the yards...

Pete I could used one or two of those buckets. Agreed about the price hike on stuff! It sucks that Western was bought out, but after talking to the guys there it was only the one on Federal that was bought as the one in Commerce City is still privately owned.

I didnt know there where two! I always went there because the prices were plainly listed at the start, and for whatever reason they seem to be the most likely to have a scout in the yard. I was really dissapointed this time though. Never again.

My guess would be Pull and Pay off 64th and Broadway/Pecos as this is closest to Arvada.

I have four 5 gallon drywall/paint plastic buckets at my house. These were the cleanest in the roll off, but there are still more in it. It is at the south end of Reed Way in Arvada, just down the street from my house:6139 Reed Way, Arvada 80003.

Yours if anyone needs them. I have enough, so if these don't get picked up, they will get recycled.....again

I always bring my wheelbarrow, and I actually have two. And U-Pull and Pay always has a bunch available. And I bring just about every tool I own, even some of the specialty stuff. The yard @ 64th and Broadway always has a big selection of Jeeps, Ford Explorers and Toyota's. And even Chase will be in luck. Usually some older Ford stuff there, too. Make sure to have your shopping lists ready. If anybody needs anything in particular, but can't make it let me know. I usually have a few extra bucks.

I won't be able to make it, but another tip is for someone to take a camera and/or notepad. Take notes or pics of some vehicles. The s10, XJ, and other common vehicles aren't a big deal. Scouts, CJ's, Willys, old Broncos, old Blazers, etc are harder to find and it is good to know where they are located. Even the Toyota trucks (especially solid axle), FJ's and Samurai. Would be nice to see what people come across.

I'm always on the lookout for Dana 44 flat top driver and passenger knuckles off of those FSJ's. WJ knuckles, Hydro boost masters and pumps, front and rear axles, bumpers, aftermarket lift kit parts, t-cases, gear sets, leaf springs, etc. Have we posted a time and a yard yet?

Awesome, I'll be there when they open. That way I can get an early start and mark in my head where stuff is. Get me your lists people, and I'll do what I can to pre-find what you're looking for.

Oh, wait. Should we make opening the meetup time? I've never planned a junk yard run before!

Check their website, Heather. It really doesn't matter what time we start. I just get there early to scout around to see what they've got. Earlier might be better, though, because they close early on Sunday. Say, 9:00 am.

    Pull and Pay:

    http://www.upullandpay.com/locations...r/default.aspx

    9:00-3:30 on Sundays

Make sure to get your hands stamped. What I usually do is go through the yard with almost no tools to see what is there and where it is, making notes, especially if I am looking for something specific. You can move fast and cover a lot of ground if you aren't lugging 500lbs of tool ****. I also do this with some real basic tools in my pockets: cutters, channel locks, spanner, Phillips and flat head. If I see something cool, I'll take it off and stash it under something not so cool for pick up later.

At any rate, when I locate the part I need, I go back to the rig and grab the real tools that I need to take it off. Then I look at my cosmic map and go to (for instance): Imports, R 3, SE18 which translates to : Import section, row 3, southside, 18 in, facing E.

This is a big lot with a lot of vehicles. There is also the 'better' car section behind the fence.

I was just at the yard off Broadway and 64th this weekend...Found some a spare steering box/sector shaft and a power steering pump

We are heading down to Penrose to run the trails this Saturday.....I may show up Sunday just to meet some of you fine folks....and look around the yard
