With spotters, that can help eliminate the possibility of that happening but there's always a possibility of damage any time your wheeling, anywhere.
"It happens to be one of our favorite trails because it isn't a giveaway, is about as hard as you want to make it, and the weather is usually good no matter when you go."
It's one of my favorites too for the same reasons.
To give an idea of some of the obstacles, here’s some pics in order of the obstacles & a brief description………
The “Squeeze“. This one is done twice, on the way in & on the way out. No bypass for this one but it’s not much of a squeeze anymore. The big rocks got pushed outward. Spotting may be required so as not to dent sheet metal or rocker panels depending on line taken and/or ground clearance…………..
It can get a little tippy going down this hill if you put your tires in the wrong hole like I did but to the right of the holes, is smooth so it can be bypassed. This hill is steeper than it looks in the pic. This is done downhill on the way in & uphill on the way out……..
The “Rock Garden“. This is an optional playground off to the side…………
The infamous, “Whale Rock“. No bypass. The middle line is doable by most every rig but there are holes at the bottom that can make a front bumper kiss the rock. The line to the right is the easiest but still no walk in the park. The line to the left is the hardest.
Right line………..
Middle line………..
Left Line……….
The “Stair Steppers“, I don’t know the official name of this obstacle but that’s what I’ve heard it called. This obstacle is optional, it has a smooth/level bypass. It’s not very friendly for long wheelbase rigs but taking certain line(s) can eliminate the possibility of bending a driveshaft. The lines to the left side are steeper & higher……….
The “V Notch”. No bypass. This one has a deep groove in it to where if the tires slip into it, the possibility of driveshaft & differential bashing can occur. At some point, someone moved the boulder on the left side so this one is actually easier than it used to be when trying to avoid body damage. It can get a little tippy if you go too high like I did……..
The “S Turn”. No bypass. This one turns as your going downhill. There are a couple holes the tires can go into which causes some 3 wheeling action on some rigs unless the rig has lots of flex like this one does…………..
