I've been thinking about this same thing. Most cars will have pre-installed connectors in the door wiring, so you should be able to just disconnect it and remove the door. If not, you could just pick up the male/female connectors from radioshack and splice them in yourself.
ok, i will take a look.
Sure! Go buy a Jeep!
What Matt said, but if you quite a few wires, you may want to use the multi wire trailer plugs that are weatherproof.
Also, notch the top hinge bolt hole on the rig side on both top and bottom. This will allow you to remove the bottom bolts and simply loosen the top one, then lifting the door up. reinstalling the door is the exact opposite of the removal. There is a lot of talk and links about hinge pins and drilling the pins out of the hinges. Well, unless you are dealing with a 80s something Yota door that weighs 20 pounds, then either go through the REALLY tedious work to get the hinge pins drilled out so you can use a removable pin, then get help every time you remove or reinstall the doors. And, yeah, the balance point on the doors is going to just past the point where you can see to stab the pin in...
Easy to use multi pin stuff from Radio Shack, but it won't be water proof. Easier to use the trailer wiring. Easier yet to booty a multi plug weather proof connector from almost anything in the junkyard that has enough wires on it. Just make sure you get both sides. Almost all of the foreign makes have better connectors than the American makes as far as being waterproof.
I looked at the wiring, and i have at least 30 wires, and they are in a rubber tube in between the door. so i think i will just keep it.
30 wires to the door... wow. Your door should be able to cure world hunger or detect deep space anomalies.
oh you dont even know, right about now power stuff sucks. i have 3 wires per switch, and 2 per speaker and 4 for the power mirror.
so that brings me to 24

Chase is a space anomaly, but on the astral plane, not deep space....
my doors have an astounding number of wires........ZERO..... much easier hehe
well i do believe i am just a 16 year old, just trying to find his way in this world.
What Pete said. More time consuming than hard.
very true. i will wait until i get really board.
I have used a "Cannon Plug" in the past to do this on a mid 80s F150 i had. Its the main plug that connects at the firewall from the engine harness to the dash. They work rather well and have a bolt load of pins to use to make a connect for just about 100 wires. Just time consuming but not to bad at all. Kinda the wrong time of year to be taking the doors off though.
As some have said, sometimes it isn't worth the effort. There is something to be said for manual windows and maybe just a speaker in the door. A vehicle loaded with power windows/locks is going to take some time to figure out how to do the connectors. You might be best off trying to find the connecter in the foot well. There is likely one behind the kick panel near the drivers left foot.
Also, before you think about taking the off, will you have a driver mirror still? It is required by law. Just FYI to avoid some heartache later.
I am glad i am not trying this on my rover, it would be a nightmare!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well i looked at the harness thats above the pedals, and holy $H!T there are a ton of wires, so my best be would be to leave it all alone until i get really board. The worst part though, some of the wires are going to different harness.
Hatz, i would bet it would be a nightmare for you also.
I have the mirror thing figured out, i have one on my bike that i can use!
