Sort of on topic, if you're switching an older one to synthetic line, I did something like this; I used a clove hitch and attached the end to the bolt on clip on the side of the drum, no tape. I also burnt a "bulb" into the end the help the clip hold it. I have a Badlands 9000lb I switched the fairlead too, it's in this thread https://www.frontrange4x4.com/forums...Hawse-Fairlead

One thing to consider is that all of them are lower end made in China so there is a good chance it will fail within the warranty period. So which company will be easier to contact and get warranty work? I have heard that Smittybuilt is very easy to work with and I know Warn is also. Superwinch was recently bought out and their customer service is basically non-existent. There are HF everywhere so that should also be easy. I want a new winch for my trailer, it will probably be from HF.

Todd is absolutely awesome and the driving factor behind many of my purchases. I like that he buys product himself and tests it, no bias. In general, the results are expected but he's definitely the reason for some of the products I purchased. I really DESPISE influencers, I want to punch them all in the face. I would but I wouldn't consider him an influencer though. When I think of influencer, I think of someone trying to get you to buy a product so they can make money off you buying it. He doesn't care, he just provides data and tells you what he'd buy based on that data.

Thanks for the post! I'm going to watch that video now! Work is slow today....

    Farmabago!

I wish he would have done the Gen 3 X2O instead of the XRC for Smittybilt. I think XRC is their lower end one and the X2O isn't that much more.

After watching, I'm still very happy with my choice of the Smittybilt X20 Gen3 12k. I don't recall all the changes but the Gen 3 had some major upgrades which put it on par with the Warn VR series. I only bought the Smitty because 4WP had a steal. I had like $150 off plus free gloves, 30' tow rope, and 2 shackles. I've got about 10 pulls on it, several of those were uphill bulldozing heavy trucks through deep heavy snow.... ask Dan, he remembers, he was there and got to use his winch too! Was a fun run!

Something else I found interesting, that I didn't know before owning a winch and reading the manual, you only get max rated pulling power at 1 wrap on the drum, it drastically decreases the more wraps you have. When he did the test, it was only at a few feet which is basically 4 wraps around the drum and the lowest pulling power.

Max, ever stirring the pot ;-)

I skip-watched it. I have a winch so I'm not in the market, thus I didn't want to spend time on it. Because I didn't give it full attention, I'm curious what others conclude (azzuming folks watched it). I might give it a full watch, maybe, low odds. the Farm-A-Bago is a reason to watch.

In general, buying decisions weight heavily to companies with higher odds of dollars staying in the pockets of Americans, my neighbors & with product produced in areas with good quality control. While many products are produced in China, the track record of quality control out of that country, IMO, is rather poor. I was bummed to hear him say "Made in China" for the Warn product.
