Probably too big. Try reducing them to a smaller size Matt.

They still have a mechemical connection to the vehicle.
    As in an electric rac-n-pinion.
The DOT wants someing tangible that will steer the vehicle if the engine is dead.
Hydro assist qualifies,as,the box is still in place and can steer without the engine( I know electric etc). On an electric or hybreed car there is battery power to tell the computer to turn the rack.
Even in a newer all drive by wire, everything works as long as the power is still there and in the on position.

Not my laws, just have to know them as to keep ones self out,of the relm of LIABILITY

Please post up a link to these laws. I would love to read them over myself and I could not find these specific ones that you are mentioning. Thanks in advance!

    http://www.liftlaws.com/is_full_hydr...reet_legal.htm

It's internet lore; one guy said it, someone else repeated it and now its a "fact". At the bottom of that page they are offering a Bounty to anyone that can prove it's illegal anywhere but Tennessee. I'd just make sure the shop owner is a registered PE with insurance, any liability should go back to them.

    Same thing I have found.
I will got through the DOT book next week at work as well and get regulation numbers.
Wil be digging into this as I have seen UT state patrol write a fix it ticket for a full hydro steering...
No it was not in Moab, the streets of Moab seem to have much that folks get away with.

ut requires 75% coverage on tires.... meaniing mud flaps on everything!
I know most states dont say much pertaining to steering, but DOT reg do...I will find this stuff so all may be educated upon them.
It falls into the CYA, keeping out of the relm of liability.

hope you get the pics up soon!

"Someone started a rumor about fully hydraulic steering being illegal for use on the highway. This is not true. We contacted the U.S. Department of Transportation and asked about the rules on hydraulic steering systems. We were told that any rules prohibiting the use of fully hydraulic steering systems in the automotive aftermarket would fall under local laws. We suggest you check with your state's local transportation authorities if you question the legality of hydraulics." - http://www.fourwheeler.com/how-to/su...steering-tech/

we are digging through the DOT regulation book.....its only 5 inches thick.....and they dont but things in any kind of order.
It took us week to find the regulations about licence plate orintation.....must be mounted horrizonilly on the left side on trailers
left side or center on vehicals.

That's just crazy! I suppose it's easy for anyone that knows the regs to find a reason to pull someone over!

What are the regulations about plates? Can you post a pic of that page in your book, or just list the section numbers? I just went through that and according to the HP officer that did the inspection license plates are issued and regulated by states, the federal government only issues and regulates plates for it's own vehicles. Illumination is federal, but mounting and style are not. For example, in SC you can have a vertical plate, and in Colorado you have a front plate while in Alabama or 18 others its rear only, personalization, frame and cover laws vary too. Heights vary too from state to state.

    That's some progress!

    Congrats.

Up-travel on the rear tire - no issue with the body I assume?
