I helped my bud move, again. I got to his old place at 9:30 AM. I got home at 12:30 AM. I don't remember being this sore and cranky when I did this crap 25-30 years ago.

I keep thinking about my accumulation of junk, and helping my ex in-laws move. Through the whole ordeal the ol' boy would repeat: "Next time I move, it'll be with a matchstick!" Tempt me not!!!

    Enough ranting for now.

I no longer move people including myself. 1) it is way more work than what you would expect, 2) there always seem to be stairs involved, either up or down, 3) the basement access is always too small for what has to go down there, 3) the other person's furniture, especially anything belonging to the other person's SO, always seems to acquire dings, and 4)there is way too much work involved...oh...I mentioned that...

Every time time I have helped someone move, I have ended up feeling like I have just done a 3 day wall climb....The only stuff I move anymore is my garage stuff, mainly because no one else wants to touch it...The last time I helped someone move was Bear and that was his garage stuff that no one wanted to touch....and I felt that for a few days....No joy at all...

well since all you guys have said you don't move anymore, if anyone needs a moving hand let me know. I'm still young and more than willing to help out. Though I don't like doing it. Last time I moved it took me 2 hours and was just about the middle of the night.

And this is why people don't like to buy trucks. Never fails when you have a truck everyone calls you up to help them move.... I use to help without saying anything, now I say "again"....LOL... But now I don't have to seeing as the just got a bigger truck than mine. Now I'll let her handle all that.... LOL....I still don't mind lending a hand sometimes..

    /QUOTE]

You don't remember because, 20 years ago, we weren't sore. Hugh and I thought we would save money by moving the boxed things ourselves and having the movers do the furniture and large items. Waking up the next morning and feeling like you had been beat with a railroad tie means that we are spending the extra cash next time.

I never had many people ask. My truck was usually loaded with scrap metal and looked like I should have left it at the recycler.

His first two moves took several trips with pickups and trailers. This time he rented a big U-Haul, we had the bulk moved in two trips.

The whole time I was loading his junk, I thought of the stuff I have stored, and the last time I used what. I have a lot of junk we've lived without for too long: Time to fix that!

When I headed back to D.C. in 1980 or '81 for a couple years, everything I owned fit in my (first) FJ40, including a water bed. And a lady friend rode with me as far as Bloomington, Ind. With my dog in the passenger side footwell. Colorado to D.C. in a loaded-down 40. Yeah, I didn't feel a thing. Ah, to be young again. Nowadays, I'm stiff after driving the 40 to Brody's house.

Ten years ago, when we moved to Longmont from Fort Collins, I was all set to do it myself, as I'd done so many times before (and I was still a young 42). Pack stuff up, load it all in a Ryder and go. My wife said no way. I'm glad to this day she overrode my desire to save money.

The proper conduct of a road is not an activity reserved for some crazy people who enjoy a super 4x4, but is a very different from driving a private vehicle. Driving a 4x4 or all-terrain vehicle requires a high level of adaptability and a cautious observation of rapid decision making especially in the mountain. The variety of situations that arise require knowledge, practice and expertise, which only make an informed and experience.

I have lived in 7 different places in the last 6 years, I am so sick of moving. I am not too llight on stuff either. I have a lot of hobbies that all require a lot of gear. I am dreading the next move. I keep telling myself the next one with be a house that I own, and I will stay for at least a good 5 years.

I'm with you there. We've been in the same house in Longmont for going on 12 years now. That's a record for me. It takes me a while to count (or even remember) all the places I've lived.
