I was wondering if you could have purposely made it a through hole (at the original size, not enlarged for helicoil), and just bolt through with washer and nut on the backside. Glad the helicoil...
The starter mount is into aluminum bellhousing?
Just another option....but when we where there last month, we were able to get camping just out the kane creek road a short distance at kings bottom campground....it's small and with busy season...
Some more digital resources on MT trails....

Ha....I've run jones, and it's pretty easy and ho-hum. Equivalent to bard I would guess! Not sure what else is in the area other than bill moore and red elephant, both of which I've run.
Time to update this thread again....and since I am in Colo front range, seems appropriate....and its probably going to be awhile before the high mt passes are open for wheeling! Big Sky closed down...
No....Ford's used a lot of 11" Bendix style drums front and rear on their trucks well into the 70s....then it was front disc and rear drums into the 90s
Also, Chevy did about the same....part of...
The fun of old iron....many days I am ready to sell the 58....the engine is making a concerning noise. Been going with the let it blow a rod through the block mentality as that means I can start...
From the pics, this looks nice....for the price, it would need a thorough look over, but honestly, if it's close to turn key and you got the cash.......
One of the reasons this topic came up, was trying to discuss crawl ratio with tire size as a variable, and as it turns out, engine rpm is critically important as well. Somebody wanted the calculation...
So I guess the question is how low of an rpm can be functionally designed and used? If nothing else, seems like going with one of the classic, longer stroke v8s is a good start, be it sbc305/350/383...
So the next step is looking at tire size....I initially had 31s on the CJ with 2.46 D18. With the OEM CR of 37, that yielded a crawl speed of 2.12. When I upped the tire size to 33, that speed went...
I like to run various calculations that may or may not have much meaning....I am totally fine if it doesn't have any meaning, I enjoy looking at the mathematical relationship and then trying to tie...
Sounds good...for future parts reference I accidentally included the Jeepster man link above, when I meant to the link to parts dude 4x4....Jeepster man is fine, but Sam at parts dude is great and is...
Jim....give these guys a call....I know the owner through both ecj5 and OWF....even if they don't have what have what you need, they can probably put you in the right direction. Since your stuff is a...
wish there was better wheeling in MT! Seems I keep driving to UT, CO and Idaho to wheel! At least for the CJ and more hardcore wheeling, there isn't nearly as much here. But there are lots of...
Day 3 was steelbender....this is a lollipop loop...the first half is kind of like poison spyder, but the back half gets a bit long and bumpy.
You drive in along a creek and some scenery......
The second big obstacle is tilt-a-whirl....here I am coming down with some spotting help....you can see the RF tire finding a small ledge of rock - this is needed......
Day 2 was flat iron mesa - and although this trail is rated a bit easier, it was a new to me trail and has been on my bucket list....its south of town a bit and gets away from the crowds, as well as...
Went to Moab last week...Jim was hanging around the fringe with joining, but in the end was not able to attend, so requested a trail report...
A quick backstory....the white flat fender is...
Just got back from Moab with rich etc....in addition to some obligatory trails like fins and hells, I did add two more trails to list that I'd never run - flat iron mesa and steelbender. I think PS...
Speaking of Buick 215 V8....this looks like a good deal!

Our snowpack is still way below normal....dry fire summer is looking probable. Skiing at resort has gotten better since presidents day, but it's going to take a record march to get us anywhere near...
It's a 2wd VJ Jeepster...cool looking early phaeton body style, but OEM engines were pretty anemic. I always thought one of those with an sbc283 or early Buick 215 V8 and 4 or 5 speed w would be a...
Yes, I work on snow at big sky.....you are not missing much this year so far....very limited snowfall so far.
