Something a little different: Patio Table Build
Just completed a fun, different project and thought we'd share. Different kind of project for us as we used a material that we normally do not process, granite slab. Was fun to get to play around a little and try something new.
We have had a slab of granite that we rescued from a neighboring granite shop for a while and finally was able to put it to use. The slab in question had broken and this was the largest piece that could be salvaged. You will notice the broken edges.

Laid out a straight cut edged piece that was about 3' x 8'. Then used an angle grinder to cut each edge. It made quick work of the stone and left a desirable "rough cut" finish.
Here is the bottom of the stone, freshly after cut:

And the top polished side:

And we were able to save a decent sized piece for a small side table to be built at a later date. It's about 1.5'x3':

Re: Something a little different: Patio Table Build
We put the cut stone aside to get sealed, and start on the frame for the table. After a quick design session, a chop list was created and all the pieces we cut and cleaned up:

Start on the top of the frame that will support the granite slab:

With the top done and sanded smooth, it gets set aside to make room for the fabrication of the legs. First we sketched out our design and fit the pieces together to make sure it all would fit properly together:

Once fitment was confirmed, we got to work:

Re: Something a little different: Patio Table Build
All the individual pieces before final assembly:

Attaching the top of the frame to the legs:

And the bottom cross support:

And the bottom of the legs got drilled and tapped for some threaded feet to make for easy leveling:

Re: Something a little different: Patio Table Build
Then primed and painted the frame assembly with the stone was sealed:

When it was dry, the threaded feet were added:

And the finished table was delivered to it's home, set up and leveled:

You may notice the table legs go with the custom fence and mountain scene gate.

Now that the table is installed, we can install the rest of the fencing. And get around to building a side table with the leftover slab.
Re: Something a little different: Patio Table Build
looks good (actually way better than that)...and I am just trying to make a battery tray and hold down bracket, and it won't look good (actually way worse than that)...

Thanks, but have a little faith in yourself.
Re: Something a little different: Patio Table Build
Looks great!
What are the snowcapped peaks on the gate made out of?
Re: Something a little different: Patio Table Build
Looks great. It's probably not heavy enough.

Thanks. They are metal 3/16×3 flat stock bent on my shop built finger brake

Base is under 70 pounds. Top is about 300
Re: Something a little different: Patio Table Build
I was going to say you probably won't have any issues with that blowing off the patio! Nice work.

Thx - From the angle it looked like some translucent / frosted white plastic cap placed on the peaks.

Just the snowy peaks painted white.

Biggest unknown for me is hail and also how well the sealer works with the freeze and thaw cycles. I am not a stone guy...
Re: Something a little different: Patio Table Build
So, did you set the table top FLAT or slope it just a bit so water doesn't pool?

with the threaded foot pegs, it could be adjusted from the bottom for a bit of slope if desired.

Re: Something a little different: Patio Table Build
Honestly I've build all wood tables that were pretty damn heavy also. Trestle wood frame with a red oak top that was 1 1/4" thick and 48"x90". That top was heavy.

Nope, those peaks are obviously well under the snowline :D
