10 July - Grizzly Lake (camp) Iron Chest 11 July
Since the Red Cone run was pushed, I'd love to try and camp near Grizzly Lake and run Iron chest the next day. 10 July / 11 July.
My over landing equipment is weak, but I'll have the basics covered. I may talk my daughter into it, but the wife has already hard passed.
Anyone else have an interest in something like this?

My rig is not up to it. Open open…
Re: 10 July - Grizzly Lake (camp) Iron Chest 11 July
Not sure if my rig is up for Iron Chest. The boulder field looks formidable in the Funtreks book.
Re: 10 July - Grizzly Lake (camp) Iron Chest 11 July
Yes...but my availability is pretty uncertain. Are you planning to run grizzly first? That first ledge obstacle is a mandatory winch for me.

Yep, hopefully get there and find a spot near the lake for the night.
I saw you may have a Rubicon trip also. Tough problems man.
I've gone through the first bit of that boulder field and just remember taking it very slow.
Not so much individual obstacles worried me but it seemed like a very long 1/4 mile alone.

Yes, those are linked in Aaron's original post above. Is there something in particular you are pointing out? I'm confused by the link re-post.
Re: 10 July - Grizzly Lake (camp) Iron Chest 11 July
I apologize for redundant links. I didn't see the trail names with hyperlinks. Please forgive me, I'm sorry again for the confusion! I have removed the links in the hope that I don't offend anyone else.
In the video I don't see the section with the winch anchor. Is it the first obstacle?

It is the gatekeeper, one of the primary reasons this trail gets such a harsh rating.
Lockers really not needed if you have a winch or shackle on someone else.
No sweat on the links, they were subtle.
Re: 10 July - Grizzly Lake (camp) Iron Chest 11 July
Weird, It doesn't look hard enough to need a winch anchor, and I didn't see it in that video.
Re: 10 July - Grizzly Lake (camp) Iron Chest 11 July
While I can't do both days nor camp, I would be interested in doing Iron Chest on Sunday. Never done it before and looks fun.
Re: 10 July - Grizzly Lake (camp) Iron Chest 11 July
That works too!
I'll set up a thread this weekend. I just need to sit down and get some meeting spots put together.

Having done runs in the st elmo area, I have found this spot to be a good meeting location.
Has an outhouse and parking. Just before St Elmo.

Thanks Tom, easy enough to find.
Re: 10 July - Grizzly Lake (camp) Iron Chest 11 July
Yeah that's perfect, now I'll just need enough time to wake up and get down the hill.
After coffee of course, always that.
Re: 10 July - Grizzly Lake (camp) Iron Chest 11 July
wish i wasn't with the family in steamboat that weekend for the hot air ballon festival or i would be in
Re: 10 July - Grizzly Lake (camp) Iron Chest 11 July
To sidetrack this thread a bit, if you need a winch anchor to get up an obstacle, in general do you end up winching down in reverse? Or being lowered down by a winch line to the vehicle behind you? Or just take a faster ride down than up?
Re: 10 July - Grizzly Lake (camp) Iron Chest 11 July
Usually with gravity on your side, a descent can be done without a winch point, unless it's a large waterfall type drop off (thinking Steelbender waterfall), and the vehicle wheel base is short.
I could see that helping.

Take your time getting down, its a three hour drive for me. That said, just let me know what time you want to meet and I'll be there.
Re: 10 July - Grizzly Lake (camp) Iron Chest 11 July
I need to slide this forward one week to 17/18 July instead.
I'll get a calendar entry made soon.
