Re: 14 bolt carnage
I need to take the hub off to see how far the crack goes. If it is just in the threaded portion then it can probably be welded. If it extends further then either the spindle will need cut off each side and new ones welded on or the entire housing will need replaced.

Re: 14 bolt carnage
I would imagine the spindle is done. Heat would possibly deform the metal surface to the point where the bearing race would never fit.

One of the reviews on Amazon said they did just that. Made a seat to go on top. They are heavy though, about 55 lbs each.

Re: 14 bolt carnage
Took the housing to Sessions Motorsports. After checking the housing to make sure it was straight and there were not any other issues we decided to cut the spindle off and weld a new one on. The other option would have been to move all my parts to another housing. The housing and spindle are at the machinist now so they can be machined for a perfect fit then it will be welded. Housing might be ready to put back together by the weekend.

Re: 14 bolt carnage
Well it's all back together. The caliper bracket was not located correctly so the shop needs to fix that. I didn't have any extra parts left over and it runs down the street fine though.
-
Re: 14 bolt carnage
A nice milestone.
Congrats.

Re: 14 bolt carnage
Good news! I imagine it's tricky to position caliper brackets without the rest of the brake components to reference off of.

Re: 14 bolt carnage
Good to hear you got it back together!

Re: 14 bolt carnage
Picked it up from the shop this afternoon. All that is left is to bleed the brakes, remount my cutting brakes, and check the torque on some bolts.

Re: 14 bolt carnage
Drove the buggy around the block a few times and flexed on the big snow pile on the side of my driveway, everything is good. Also tried the parking brake valve, works great.
