Let me explain, we boondock to get away from the crowds. Look for peace and quiet, there is nothing like hearing just wildlife and wind. Really brings us back to center. :thumb:

I commend you for being the guy! I spent a few hours in genesee raking pine needles and pine cones at my inlaws to reduce the fuel around their house. I recommend the same to all mountain dwellers! :thumb:

Campers are not the pep's that are setting fire's. That would be your local Fire dept, Mnt people and GOD! I love how the media trying to pin it on the camper's every time a fire takes off. Sorry, if I am up in Mnt and its cold. I am starting a fire and will do so in the best Boy scout way.

I just will not post pic's LOL

From what I see here is most of the counties have bans but not all.
Colorado Division of Emergency Management: Fire Bans & Restrictions

The following Open Burning IS allowed under a restriction:
• Use of barbecues and pits that are at least 10 feet away from combustible walls or roofs or other combustible materials.
• Campfires that are contained within a designated fire pit that is a least 25 feet away from all structures or other combustible material.
Fire pits must be less than 3 foot in diameter or 3 feet in length and width, and at least 18 inches in depth.
A garden hose connected to a water supply or other approved fire-extinguishing equipment must be readily available.
All campfires must be attended by a person knowledgeable in the use of fire extinguishing equipment until the fire is completely out.

The following Open Burning IS NOT allowed under a restriction:
• Open burning of materials not contained in an incinerator, outdoor fireplace, barbecue, grill, or pit.
• Use of any explosives, fireworks of any type, firing of model rockets, welding or operating an acetylene or other torch with open flame
in an outdoor location.

FWIW, the Hewlett fire was camper started.

(edit: what I've heard, though inciweb states "Human-caused")
A guy's alcohol fueled stove tipped over / spilled and it spread too fast for him to extinguish.

That guy was at his home. He is a Mountain Person that lives up there and should no better. (IMO) But SH!T happens, as I have been told. The rest of the fire's this year were started by NFS/State CO and lighting at the new fire. That sad thing is that it was reported when it was only 200 acres. Ya lets see if it will go out on its own. Ummmm Nope now it's 43k acres and growing with 100 home's GONE. They really jacked that one up.

I am not saying campers should not be careful but most fires are not started by campers.

Many kudos for this James!! I am sorry to have raised a ruckus over this!!

Jason (upnover), I find camper's fires still going or smoldering quite a bit actually, and make sure they are out myself. Not all campers are boy scout savvy, just like not all wheelers stay the trail. No brow beating intended, just pointing out my mtn people experience :)

operative word should be 'wild' fires, campers of course start the campfire ;)
